Sometimes, you don’t realize how big something has become in your life until you have to press pause on it.
When we started Rock Leaf Harvest, our goal was simple: to grow really good microgreens and share them with people who cared about fresh, local food. We imagined a small circle of customers, a few trays under lights, and the quiet satisfaction of knowing we were putting something healthy and honest out into the world.
What we got instead was a community.
Over time, those little brown paper bags weren’t just “orders” anymore. They were Saturday routines, familiar driveways, kids peeking out the window, quick chats on porches, and “how have you been?” conversations at the door. We started recognizing houses by the dog in the window or the wreath on the door. Names turned into faces, and faces turned into stories.
That’s why this update is such a hard one to share.
Because of changing circumstances on the farm, we’ve had to make the very difficult decision to pause Rock Leaf Harvest’s operations for an indefinite period of time. Our last deliveries will take place tomorrow, November 29.
If you’d like to be part of that final delivery, orders can still be placed at www.rockleafharvest.com.
This decision has not come easily. We’ve turned it over from every angle, had many late-night talks, and played out all the “what if” scenarios. In the end, we realized we couldn’t continue in the way we felt you deserved — with the quality, consistency, and care that have always been at the heart of Rock Leaf Harvest.
We promised ourselves from the beginning that if we ever reached that point, we would choose honesty over pushing through “just because.” So here we are, keeping that promise, even though it hurts.
As we reflect on this chapter, we genuinely feel that we accomplished what we set out to do. We wanted to: Grow microgreens that were fresh, flavourful, and nourishing. Make healthy eating a little easier and more fun. And most importantly, bring together a small community of people who appreciated quality and tasted the difference.
You proved, over and over again, that this was possible. You sent photos of salads piled high with sunflower shoots, sandwiches overflowing with pea shoots, breakfast plates sprinkled with radish, and smoothies turning bright green. You told us which varieties you loved most, which ones your kids surprised you by eating, and how our microgreens became part of your
weekly rhythm.
But what we’ll remember most isn’t the trays or harvest schedules — it’s the personal connections.
We’ve loved meeting so many of you at your doors, hearing about your weeks, swapping gardening tips, laughing about the weather, and sometimes just sharing a quick hello before you rushed back inside to a busy day. We’ve felt supported through your kind messages, referrals, and simple gestures of encouragement. It’s hard to put into words how much that has meant.
For now, Rock Leaf Harvest is stepping back. We don’t have a timeline for when or if we’ll return, so we’re calling this what it is: an indefinite hiatus. Life on the farm is shifting, and we need to make space to adapt to those changes.
What isn’t going away, though, are the values that grew alongside those microgreens: eating well, supporting local, caring about where our food comes from, and staying connected to one another. We hope that, in some small way, our little farm business encouraged you to keep those values close — whether that’s by seeking out other local growers, starting your own tray
of greens on a windowsill, or simply remembering that small food businesses matter because people like you choose to support them.
As we make this pause official, we mostly want to say thank you.
Thank you for welcoming Rock Leaf Harvest into your homes and onto your tables.
Thank you for trusting us with a spot in your fridge and a place in your routine.
Thank you for every order, every kind word, every “see you next week.”
We may be stepping back from deliveries, but we’re not stepping away from the gratitude we feel for each and every one of you. However our path unfolds from here, we’ll carry this experience — and this community — with us.
🌱 With gratitude,
Heather, Allie, and Ron The Rock Leaf Harvest Team
